Michael Blaker’s Retro Game Friday: XGRA: Extreme-G Racing Association

Hey all, I’m back with the fourth game in the Extreme-G series from 2003 for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s XGRA: Extreme-G Racing Association, which was released as a major racing game for the Nintendo GameCube.

Gameplay: The gameplay isn’t much different from prior entries, though the weapon system has been reworked entirely. Players can choose to race for one of eight teams, each with its own advantages for their bikes. Honestly, it wasn’t too different than the third entry though, which is probably part of why this is the last entry in the series.

Art: The art aged poorly, but that’s expected given the era it was released in.

Music: I don’t remember the music much either given I played it only for a weekend with my brother after renting it at the local video rental store.

Overall: A decent racing title, but not particularly noteworthy beyond the fact that the speeds are ridiculous.
